Ah yes, the age old question, “What should I do first, weights or cardio?”

It’s really quite simple, it all depends on your goals.

If you want to get stronger, obviously you’ll want to lift weights first. If you fatigue your entire system by doing cardio before you lift, you won’t be able to lift as much weight, thus not gaining the strength you could have had you not done cardio first.

Same goes for hypertrophy. Although your rep scheme is a bit higher, you still need to lift heavy.

The only time I really recommend doing cardio before lifting is if you are separating the two; AM cardio and PM lifting (so you have time to recover), or if you are severely overweight. For those individuals who are severely overweight, just moving their bodies will increase strength.

No matter what, in my book, weights will always be top priority. Increasing muscle mass is one of the best fat burning tools we have at our disposal. The greater our lean mass, the higher our metabolism, the more calories we burn per day. My formula for scorching major fat:

EAT CLEAN + LIFT HEAVY + SPRINT LIKE SOMEONE IS CHASING YOU = FIRE!!

Eat clean train dirty,
